For our Country Program Office in Republic of Gabon, we are looking for a dynamic and committed programs coordinator.
Reports to: Country Coordinator, WWF Gabon
Supervises: Conservation Program Leaders, Projects Managers and Landscapes Managers.
Location: Libreville, Republic of Gabon
Duration: one (01) year, renewable.
- Missions:
- Provide technical Direct support to the Country Coordinator (CC).
- Supervise the Conservation Department, projects managers and landscapes managers.
- Represent the Conservation Department within and outside Gabon Country Office.
- Major Functions:
- Within the WWF Gabon Country Office (GCO), the Programs Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the work of the conservation department.
- He/she advises the Country Director on technical issues and provides essential input for the department’s supervision, review and evaluation.
- He/she liaises with Regional and Network Conservation leads and facilitates the execution of regional and network assignments for Gabon office in conservation related activities.
- He/she may represent the CC in technical work sessions with national authorities, conservation partners and projects in Gabon and beyond.
- He/she initiates/ coordinates the development of concept notes and full project proposals.
- He/she supports the CC in Fundraising efforts.
- Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support/advice to the country coordinator.
- Ensure the finalization of the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and facilitate/ coordinate its implementation.
- Ensure GCO delivers the regional and network conservation responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Support/ coordinate the development of concept notes and project proposals with GCO technical managers.
- Coordinate the contribution to the Global Practices and the work of the “Practices” Focal Points.
- Follow-up quality and timeliness of technical reports internally and to relevant donors.
- Monitor the implementation of thematic and field programs/projects.
- Coordinate the conservation team.
- Profile:
- Bilingual French English
- Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of sustainable development and Management principles and/or poverty alleviation and development issues.
- Proven track record in successfully developing, leading and managing projects in the field of conservation, natural resource management, international development, and/or other related fields.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Fluency in English and French.
- Skilled in negotiation, liaison and in relationship and conflict management.
- Strong skills in project planning, proposal writing, financing, management, implementation, and evaluation, and experience working with donors.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong vocational interest in nature conservation.
- A working knowledge of financial management, especially of projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, both internally and with local communities, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector, the scientific community, the business community and the WWF Network.

- Experience in the Congo Basin would be an asset.
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Program Coordinator point will support the CC in the supervision and management of all WWF Gabon projects and technical staff.
- He/she will supervise the other program/project coordinators.
- He/she will support the management of regional projects/staff embedded in the GCO.
- He/she will be fully involved in the hiring, development, and evaluation of all WWF Gabon projects.
- Profile
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Master’s degree in Conservation/ Environment / Natural Resource management.
- Proven Track record in successfully developing, leading and managing projects in the field of conservation, natural resource management, international development and other related fields.
- At least 8 years professional experience in project management, 3 years of which should be in the Congo Basin with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Required Skills and Competencies: (no more than 2-3 short bullets) list the minimum skills and competencies required to perform the role:
- Proven leadership and team management skills; Fluency in English and French.
- Demonstrated skills in project planning, proposal writing, finance management, implementation, evaluation and experience working with donors.
- Strong vocational interest in nature conservation.
- Working Relationships:
Internal: The Program coordinator will work closely with the Country Coordinator and country team, the Congo Basin and Africa Conservation Directors, the regional conservation team, the Fundraising Manager for Africa and the WWF network.
External: Interacts with technical departments of the Ministry of forest and other partner national governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, the media, donors, specialists/ consultants and other stakeholders.
