WWF Gabon Empowers Communities in Ogooué-Ivindo with Forest Nurseries
With the aim of promoting sustainable forest management and livelihood opportunities, the CIBEL program has successfully helped communities in the villages of Massar Jeh, Nze Vatican, Lasio, and Ebyeng to set up forest nurseries in community forests in the province of Ogooué-Ivindo.The surface area allocated is 4348.51 square meters per site. This area could accommodate 11 trays per site, with the following dimensions:
- length: 8.75 meters
- width: 1.75 meters
- spacing between tubs: 1 meter.
The CIBEL program ( Inclusive Conservation of Biodiversity and Local Ecosystems) aims to implement conservation measures while involving local communities, so that they can derive socio-economic benefits.
By encouraging the active participation of communities in the preservation and sustainable management of forest resources, the project has also opened up additional income-generating opportunities.
Indeed, the production and sale of nursery products will provide local populations with sustainable livelihoods, while helping to protect and enhance forest ecosystems.
The CIBEL program is supported by AFD (Agence Française de Développement/French Development Agency)
