Workshop for the launch and operational planning of the GIZ project "Biodiversity and sustainable development of the TRIDOM GABON landscape"

From 17 to 20 September 2024, Ms Nathalie NYARE ESSIMA and Ms Léopoldine TEGUIA are taking part in the workshop to launch the GIZ project ‘Biodiversity and sustainable development of the TRIDOM Gabon landscape’.

From 17 to 20 September 2024, Ms Nathalie NYARE ESSIMA (WWF Gabon National Director) and Ms Léopoldine TEGUIA (Community Manager at the WWF Makokou/ TRIDOM GABON Office) took part in the launch workshop for the GIZ project " Biodiversity and sustainable development of the Dja-Odzala-Minkebé Tri-National Landscape (TRIDOM)"  in Oyem, Gabon. 
 
This new project will be implemented over a period of four (04) years (2023-2027) and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The Commission des Forêts d'Afrique Centrale (COMIFAC), established by the ‘Yaoundé Declaration’ in 1999, provides political oversight as the sub-regional institution responsible for monitoring sub-regional strategies and initiatives in the forestry and environmental sector in Central Africa.
The project's activities will be implemented in line with the four selected areas of intervention, including :
(i) strengthening cross-border cooperation through the effective operation of the bodies of the TRIDOM agreement,
(ii) the involvement of stakeholders (government, private sector and civil society) in the protection of biodiversity and the development of the TRIDOM landscape,
(iii) the voluntary commitment of private sector companies to the protection of biodiversity and sustainable socio-economic development in the forest areas of the TRIDOM landscape,
(iv) the implementation by local actors (municipalities and local administrative districts, the private sector and civil society) of demonstration projects to test innovative approaches.

For you information , The TRIDOM covers an area of 178,000 km², representing 10% of the tropical forests of Central Africa, and covers three countries: Cameroon, Congo and Gabon. The Gabonese segment, located in the north-east of the country between the provinces of Woleu-Ntem and Ogooué-Ivindo, accounts for 36% of this total area and is home to three national parks: Minkébé, Mwagna and Ivindo.
